Calendar of Special EventsSeveral events occur annually at Eden Gardens State Park and several others change each year. Visitors should check with the park offices and at the visitor bulletin board in the Fig Leaf Gift Shop for current activities once they arrive at the park.
Christmas Candlelight Open House: shortly before Christmas the Wesley House is open to the public for free tours to show off its Holiday finery throughout, provided by The Friends of Eden. All the windows bear boughs of holly and wreaths, each of the rooms is decorated for the season, most with gorgeous trees alight with hundreds of tiny bulbs, and outside the walks are lined with candlelit luminaria. Ladies and gentlemen in period dress are “at home” in the house to guide you through each room. A grand testimonial to the loving labor of The Friends. Come and help us decorate. We do it the Tuesday and Wednesday before Thanksgiving, and have a good time while were at it. - see photos
Re-enactors: concurrent with the Holiday Open House a company of thespians set up camp on the lawn south of the reflecting pool, dressed in the attire of the soldiers of the civil war, and live there for several days, cooking and sleeping and doing chores as their forebears in a time long past.
Easter Egghunt: what a wonderful setting for this happy and exciting activity, several areas of discovery for several different age groups to ensure that everyone leaves joyful and with “bounty”.
Other: Events which have occurred at Eden Gardens State Park in the recent past have included live music on the bandstand, the Bayou Americana Festival, numerous bar-b-ques and other picnics, arts festivals, not to mention the many private functions. There’s always something to see at Eden so don’t miss this Walton County treasure. |
